Why is cognitive reframing often ineffective for changing the defectiveness schema?

A

Cognitive reframing tends to have limited effectiveness because the defectiveness schema is rooted in procedural and emotional memory rather than mere propositional beliefs. Simply knowing that the belief is distorted does not address the deep-seated feelings associated with it, which require more profound emotional engagement to change.
