What physiological mechanisms prevent abdominal exercises from reducing abdominal fat?
Abdominal exercises do increase energy expenditure and strengthen the muscles, but they do not preferentially mobilize fat from the subcutaneous abdominal depot. There is no physiological mechanism that allows for local fat mobilization through targeted exercise.
