What is edema and how does it occur?
Edema is the accumulation of excess fluid in the interstitial space, which is the area between cells in tissues. It occurs when the balance of fluid movement from capillaries to interstitial space is disrupted, leading to more fluid entering the interstitium than is being returned to circulation.
