Why does redirected aggression fail to work for humans?
For humans, redirected aggression fails due to memory and attribution. When frustration is directed at a partner, child, or colleague, they develop an internal model of that interaction, associating the aggressor with unpredictability and hostility, which deteriorates essential relationships. Additionally, the idea of catharsis is unsupported by research, showing that expressing anger through redirected aggression often maintains or increases subsequent aggression.
