Why does exogenous testosterone have limited effects without training?

A

Exogenous testosterone has limited effects on muscle growth without the stimulus of training because receptor density is not elevated in the absence of that stimulus. Therefore, higher levels of testosterone in circulation will not yield significant muscle growth if there are insufficient binding sites due to low receptor density.
