Why does cutting calories often lead to constipation?

A

Cutting calories typically reduces fiber intake because many high-calorie carbohydrates, such as bread and pasta, are also high in fiber. When food volume decreases significantly, fiber intake drops, which impairs digestion. Additionally, reduced water intake from fewer high-water-content foods further exacerbates the problem, leading to harder, more difficult-to-pass stools.
