What is the difference between visceral fat and subcutaneous fat?
Subcutaneous fat is the layer beneath the skin and is hormonally active, releasing free fatty acids during exercise and fasting. In contrast, visceral fat surrounds abdominal organs, is more metabolically active, and poses greater health risks, but paradoxically, it is easier to mobilize during caloric deficits.
