Q

What causes the muscle pump during training?

From 5 years of verified research · Vassili Sandqvist
A

The muscle pump is caused by blood pooling in the trained muscles as vasodilation outpaces venous return. This phenomenon is real and measurable, as muscle cross-sectional area increases during a training session, and it is partly driven by the relaxation of vascular smooth muscle mediated by nitric oxide.

This is one answer. The complete system — the psychology, the biology, and the method — is in the book.
