How is ALT different from AST in liver testing?

From 5 years of verified research · Vassili Sandqvist
A

ALT is more liver-specific than AST, primarily found in liver cells. The AST:ALT ratio can provide valuable diagnostic insight; a ratio greater than 2:1 suggests alcoholic liver disease, while a ratio less than 1 indicates non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
