Q

How does the HPA axis function in stress response?

From 5 years of verified research · Vassili Sandqvist
A

The HPA axis is a complex signaling chain that involves the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, and adrenal cortex. When a stressor is perceived, the hypothalamus releases corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH), which triggers the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) from the pituitary. This, in turn, stimulates cortisol production in the adrenal glands, affecting how your body responds to stress.
