Q

How does dopamine function in relation to rewards?

From 5 years of verified research · Vassili Sandqvist
A

Dopamine neurons fire when an unexpected reward appears, and as a stimulus becomes predictably associated with a reward, the dopamine response shifts to the stimulus itself. This means that the experience of getting a reward results in brief satiation, while the real motivation lies in the pursuit of that reward.
