Q

How do BCAAs affect perceived fatigue during exercise?

From 5 years of verified research · Vassili Sandqvist
A

During prolonged exercise, the balance between free BCAAs and free tryptophan in the plasma can influence serotonin synthesis in the brain. As BCAAs are depleted, the relative increase in tryptophan can elevate serotonin levels, which is associated with increased perceived fatigue. This central fatigue mechanism has been shown to be mitigated by BCAA supplementation in endurance athletes.
